Central St Martins College of Art & Design - Post Graduate Diploma in Glass
William De Morgan Prize for Glass at Central St Martins College of Art & Design Shortlisted for Pizza Express Contemporary Art Prize Winner of Worshipful Company of Glass Sellers Award 2016
I originally trained in textiles followed by architectural stained glass. I then undertook postgraduate studies at Central St Martin’s College where I learnt and developed other glass techniques. I have spent most of my working life as a college lecturer.
My latest body of work is inspired by the Cornish land and seascapes; I draw upon the light, patterns and colours that surround me. I enjoy working directly with glass to capture a response to a time, mood or place. When creating my pieces an important part of the work is not only colour, but also building texture and relief in the kiln together with the layering of different glasses. I take pleasure in the challenges that glass offers, and take full advantage of ‘accidents’ that occur in or out of the kiln creating unintended, but often exciting effects. I frequently incorporate agricultural object or found timber to truly connect my work to Cornwall
